Paul Howe

Paul Howe serves as the School Board Chair. He is a Maine lawyer with 15 years of nonprofit leadership experience and a master’s focused on organizational resilience and risk management. Paul’s areas of expertise include fundraising, nonprofit management, human resources and labor relations, business development, strategic planning, board relations, government affairs and global humanitarian programs and strategy. Maine is Paul’s home. He grew up in Freeport and lives in Hampden with his wife and four young children. Paul is a mediocre violist, an optimistic whitewater canoeist and enjoys exploring Maine’s untrammeled wilderness with family and friends.

Nadja van den Hoven

Nadja van den Hoven is a member of the North Star School Board. Nadja has dedicated the past 13 years to being a stay-at-home parent while actively participating in various committees and serving on the school board. Her commitment to fostering a safe, supportive, and nurturing community drives her contributions to educational initiatives. In her free time, Nadja enjoys exploring the outdoors, with winter being her favorite season.

Alyssa Verrill

Alyssa Verrill is a member of the Bangor SDA church and North Star Christian School Board. She grew up in the Bangor area, attending John Bapst Memorial High School, the University of Maine at Orono, and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, earning her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2016.  She and her husband then moved back home to Winterport where they now reside with their family. They especially love singing and leading worship together at church, as well as exploring the beautiful state of Maine with family and friends. Alyssa is passionate about her roles as a wife, mother to her two beautiful children, a preserver of sight, and follower of Jesus. She is honored to have the opportunity to help ensure the gift of a Christian education, one she wishes she had been blessed to receive, to the children of the greater Bangor area. 

Judi Josiah-Martin

Judith Josiah-Martin, PhD, ACSW, CADC, is a member of the Bangor SDA Church and North Star School Board. She is a career clinical social worker and has been a part of the University of Maine community for the past 16 years, as School of Social Work faculty and the former Director of Multicultural Student Life. Dr. Josiah-Martin has spent 38+ years working in the field of social work as a: clinical social worker; program administrator; mental health trainer and consultant; community advocate; secondary and tertiary educator; social activist; grant coordinator; and researcher. She is an avid reader, lover of music, cooking, water sports, and a world traveler.

Millie Caggiano

Mildred (Millie) Caggiano graduated from Atlantic Union College with a BS degree in Medical Laboratory Science and has extensive experience serving in the medical field. She has lived in Maine since 2015. She obtained an EMR license so she could serve her town with the Fire Department, helping folks in need of medical assistance as well as helping at fires. She enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking with her husband and their dog, Sam. She is currently represents the Hampden Fellowship Group on the North Star Christian School Board. A highlight of her life was a medical mission trip to Guatemala in 2008.
